Peer Support Services at SOUND are provided by Washington State-certified peer counselors, individuals who have completed state approved training and passed required written and oral exams. Peer specialists use their own lived experience of mental-health or substance-use recovery—or their experience as a parent or caregiver of a youth who has received behavioral-health services—to offer hope, encouragement, and connection. As part of Washington’s recognized, evidenc-based peer support model, our specialists are trained in trauma informed, person centered practices and work alongside clients to promote wellness, self advocacy, and resilience. Peer support is an approved Medicaid service in Washington and is fully integrated into SOUND’s coordinated care approach to support your whole person recovery.

What is Peer Support?

Peer Support is an evidence based behavioral-health service in which trained professionals with lived experience of mental-health or substance-use recovery offer support, connection, and encouragement. Peer support is recognized nationally as a core component of recovery.
