Teen / Youth Guide

Entering a clinic for the first time can feel overwhelming. This guide is designed to help you know exactly what happens when you walk through our doors, so there are no surprises.

What to Expect at Your First Visit (Intake)

Your first visit is called an "intake." It’s basically a conversation to help us understand who you are and what you need.

Checking In

When you arrive, you’ll talk to the front desk. They will ask for some basic info (like your ID or insurance card if you have one).

Conversation

You’ll meet with a clinician in a private room. They will ask about your life, what’s been feeling hard lately, and what your goals are.

Your Voice

This is a partnership. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. You are the expert on your own life.

Next Steps

By the end of the meeting, we’ll talk about which of our programs fits you best and when your next appointment will be.

Your Care Team (Who You’ll Meet)

At SOUND, you aren't just assigned one person; you have a whole team looking out for you.

Therapists

Someone to talk to about your feelings, stress, or trauma in a safe space.

Medical Providers

If you need help with sleep, anxiety, or other health issues, these experts can help with medical options.

Peer Support Specialists

People who have been through their own challenges and "get it." They are there to support you as an equal.

Case Managers

If you need help with school, housing, or finding a job, these are the people who help you navigate the "system."

Caregiver & Parent Guide: Supporting Your Teen

Supporting a young person through behavioral health care requires patience and a shift in perspective.

How to Help During Intake:

Respect Privacy

While we need your input, we also provide teens with a "one-on-one" space to speak privately with their clinician. This builds the trust necessary for healing.

Be a Partner, Not a Manager

While we need your input, we also provide teens with a "one-on-one" space to speak privately with their clinician. This builds the trust necessary for healing.

Logistics Matter

Help them stay consistent with appointments. If transportation or scheduling is a barrier, talk to your Case Manager—we are here to help remove those obstacles.

Not in Crisis, But Need Support?

If things aren't "emergency level" but you just feel like life is getting heavy, don't wait.

Same-Day Access

Many of our clinics offer walk-in hours where you can talk to someone the very same day.
