Starting Monday, 27 two-person teams—comprising mental health professionals, providers, and certified peer counselors—will de-escalate crises and connect individuals to social services. Funded by a $1.25 billion levy, this initiative supports a more integrated mental health system with the 988 helpline, mobile crisis teams, and upcoming crisis care centers. Crisis Connections will dispatch teams based on caller needs, focusing on minimizing restrictive interventions. Sound Behavioral Health and DESC will respond to calls across different county regions, equipped with new technology and resources to enhance service delivery.
