Team Member Spotlight: Brian Armbrust

Brian Armbrust

Operations/Sound Thinking

Sound Thinking Specialist

Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone!  I’m Brian and I am proud to work on the Sound Thinking Team in Operations!

Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to learn.

I have sung professionally in 9 countries, I am a published composer, ♪ I founded and run a classical music non-profit in my “spare” time, and I’ve used a Grammy as a footstool before! ♫

Do you have a favorite book, tv show or movie? What makes it your favorite?

I’m going to answer with a favorite opera instead; Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten. I was immediately drawn to the eponymous anti-hero and his plight with the small village he lives in. The musical language of Britten changed my life and has shaped me as a musician since my undergraduate degree where I kept a copy of the score checked out from the library for all 4 years I attended The Ohio State University.

Heard any good jokes lately?

Not a joke, per se, but still made me chuckle/weep: “Friends don’t tell friends that 1980 was 40 years ago”

Do you have any advice for new team members?

Some days this work can be overwhelming. Send out as much care as you can into the universe, but be mindful of your emotional bandwidth. If you need support just look left and then look right; we are all in this together!

Do you have any other hobbies that you’d like to talk about?

I hesitate to call them hobbies, but music and learning are my greatest passions in life.

What is your favorite thing about working at Sound?

Mission. Mission. Mission. I’m all about that nonprofit life, and I support our Mission 200%! My favorite thing is to see the impact we have in our clients’ lives when we work as a team to support Sound’s Mission.

Name someone here at Sound who has had a big impact on you and what makes that person so influential.

Cassandra Jackson – we saw each other a fair amount and worked on several projects together but we both had this moment where we realized we had never really talked. So, we did. And the conversation was deep and meaningful and I feel like we really connected. It made me realize that those connections are waiting to be made throughout the organization.

Thank you for choosing Sound, Brian!  We’re so happy to have you on our team! <3
