Telehealth-TeleTherapy

In response to COVID-19 and social distancing measures Sound is encouraging the use of video-based services to engage our clients. By utilizing video-based services Sound’s aim is to increase our client’s feeling of connectedness to a social support and enhance their therapeutic experience. Additionally, the use of video will allow us to gain a visual perspective of the client and how they are responding during a time of isolation and potential distress.

A lot may be changing, but one thing our community can count on is that Sound puts people first with virtual visits and telehealth services.  Sound’s focus is on providing safety, stability, normalcy, and hope for our clients and team members.

What is Teletherapy?

Teletherapy is the online, professional service between a provider and a client through telecommunication technology, connecting the patient to the provider for service.

Who Might Use Sound’s Teletherapy Services?

Telehealth services are for anyone who is seeking help with stress, anxiety, addiction, or other behavioral health concerns. Teletherapy is available to all current clients and to people who are interested in seeking a therapist immediately. Teletherapy can be an enhancement to the remote therapeutic experience or as a singular plan of therapy. Teletherapy (or virtual therapy) is a highly effective method of therapy delivery.

How Do Online Therapy Sessions Work?

Teletherapy works very similarly to face-to-face therapy with the difference being that the therapist and client are in separate locations.

Sessions are scheduled and conducted via an agreed-upon secure phone or video platform. The client and clinician communicate through the chosen electronic device. Therapists use the same professional techniques and activities they would use in a face-to-face interaction.

Clients may wish to talk to a therapist one time or set up ongoing treatment with a clinician.

Are Our Teletherapy Sessions Private?

Licensed therapists are legally bound to privacy laws to protect the comments and discussion within every client session, whether in-person or virtual. Therapists work in a private, secure room while working with clients both in-person and via telehealth. Patients should also be in a private area while engaged with a therapist.

All Sound clinicians are compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) laws, the legislation that ensures client data privacy.

Is Teletherapy as Effective as Face-to-Face Therapy?

People have been using telehealth for over 20 years. Research supports that telehealth is just as effective as traditional therapy for a variety of reasons.

Benefits of Sound’s Teletherapy for Patients

Telehealth is accessible to more people, including those with disabilities, anxiety, demanding work schedules, and transportation challenges. It also can feel like a safer environment as the patient doesn’t need to travel but can experience therapy in their own home.
