For Benjamin Chin, Sound Clinician, and this year’s Heroes & Champions Award Winner in the Adult Services Category, serving the client has been paramount, even when the pandemic interrupted his first few months on the job.
“The option for remote video sessions through teleservices was a great way to be able to stay engaged with clients throughout the pandemic,” Chen explains.
Pandemic or not, Chen is committed to serving his clients to the best of his ability.
In working with clients his initial focus is to identify each person’s needs, and options for possible solutions. He then helps them locate necessary services and arranges access to community resources for those who are in need.
“In my role with Sound I am able to provide guidance and help people access the services that they need,” Chen says. “Many of Sound’s clients suffer from mental challenges, and they may have a hard time controlling themselves. Many don’t have the tools they need, or they don’t know how to ask for help, or where to get help. I’m here to make sure people are connected to the help they need.”
Chen chose to work at Sound because his goal is to provide service to those who are disadvantaged. “I realize my contributions really make a difference at Sound whenever my clients are having a difficult time and I am able to provide support for them,” Chen declares. “Sound is a perfect platform to help me reach my goal. When I can help a client solve a problem I feel like everything is working really well!”
“I see Sound’s mission in action every day,” he says. “As a member of Sound’s Community Support Team I am confident in my team and my ability to be able to provide individual treatment, emotional support and psycho-education for those in need. We are like a family. We are all resources for each other, and we support each other. It takes the entire Sound team to support our clients, and to be able to meet them where they are at.”
“I can’t do this job by myself,” Chen adds when asked what being nominated for the Sound Heroes & Champions Award means to him. “I believe that every person on the Sound team is indispensable and that this award should be given to everyone! Thank you all for your help and thank you for your work!”
