Team Member Spotlight: Sage Gill

Team Member Spotlight: Get to know Sage Gill!

Tell us something about yourself that we’d be surprised to learn.

I am shy.

Do you have a favorite book, tv show or movie? What makes it your favorite?

The “Friends” sitcom it is my favorite because I like watching a group of people caring for one another. I never experienced that. When I was a child, I felt always lonely and on the outside looking in. I have four brothers and one sister, and never felt connected to anyone and didn’t have any friends. So when I saw “Friends,” it was heartwarming to see a group of people care for one another. I never thought I would be able to interact with people, until I came to Sound as a client and learned how to be the best me.

Do you have any advice for new team members?

Use us, we have experience living with mental health challenges. We can help you help your clients to grow. A diagnosis is not one size fits all. What I experience when I am symptomatic, for example, differs from someone who has the same diagnosis as me.

Sound appreciates our rich diversity of team members. Feel free to tell us about your cultural, ethnic, or racial background! What does Sound’s Diversity and Inclusion statement mean to you?

It means that everyone is welcome and treated with respect. I am Asian and African-American; however, my cultural experience is African-American.

Who at Sound has had a big impact on you? Briefly explain how they had an impact on you.

I have to say, Mayang Hale, Sarah Durham and Lisa Cooper. I was a client here previously and became a volunteer, then a team member. All through that transition, I had the most incredible support.

What is your favorite thing about working at Sound?

My favorite thing is watching a client grow into positive self-esteem.

Thank you for choosing Sound, Sage! We’re so happy to have you on our team!
